Special Education Diversity Specialist

Corliss Rivers brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education, particularly in English instruction. With 25 years of experience as an English teacher, Corliss has been instrumental in fostering critical thinking skills among her students. As a parent of a son with special needs, Corliss has firsthand experience with the challenges and complexities of navigating the special education system. This personal experience informs her understanding and empathy towards other parents facing similar situations. She holds a master's degree in Teacher Leadership from the University of Phoenix (2013) and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Howard University in 1994. Mrs. Rivers is our High School Specialist.

Special Education Diversity Specialist

Tonya Washington promotes fun, growth, and a sense of family within her classroom learning environment. Tonya teaches her students "use what you do know, to help you figure out what you don't know". For the last 25 years, she has been committed to educating students, colleagues, families, and the community through establishing strong connections. She has taught in various classroom and school settings, served as a mentor teacher and reading specialist in a nonpublic special education school.

From the implementation of the general education curriculum of non-disabled students to its modification for special education students, Tonya's knowledge is vast. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Science Psychology from Howard University (1993). Mrs. Washington is our Middle School Specialist.

Special Education Diversity Specialist

Michelle Young is committed to student success inside of the classroom and in life. She has been on the frontlines of education for 26 years and is driven to help students overcome barriers that impact their learning. When faced with adversity, Michelle reminds herself "life will offer you moments in time, it's what you do in that moment that makes the difference". As an special educator and school leader, she has served in various capacities throughout her career which has molded her beliefs in equity, celebrating diversity, and developing partnerships with parents. She holds a Master's Degree in Special Education from Trinity University (2004) and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Howard University (1997). Ms. Young is our Elementary Specialist.
